AT 815 PM CDT…THE EYE OF HURRICANE GUSTAV WAS LOCATED NEAR LATITUDE 22.7 NORTH…LONGITUDE 83.4 WEST…OR OVER WESTERN CUBA NEAR LOS PALACIOS.

GUSTAV IS MOVING TOWARD THE NORTHWEST NEAR 15 MPH…AND THIS GENERAL MOTION IS EXPECTED TO CONTINUE DURING THE NEXT COUPLE OF DAYS. ON THIS TRACK… THE CENTER OF GUSTAV WILL EMERGE INTO THE SOUTHEASTERN GULF OF MEXICO DURING THE NEXT FEW HOURS…AND REACH THE NORTHERN GULF ON MONDAY.

MAXIMUM SUSTAINED WINDS REMAIN NEAR 150 MPH…WITH HIGHER GUSTS. GUSTAV IS AN EXTREMELY DANGEROUS CATEGORY FOUR HURRICANE ON THE SAFFIR-SIMPSON HURRICANE SCALE. Today I was at the beach with my 3 sons…  Beautiful day, nice surf.  Kids were skim boarding and boogy boarding and my 4 year old was on a quest for shells.

Navarre Beach is a beautiful place and the perfect place to visit with your family on vacation.  We love the visitors who rent our vacation homes and condos and who share the beach with us.  Our neighbors and friends in Navarre are just as responsible as our beach visitors.  We all need to pitch in to keep our beach clean.

What I saw today causes me some disgust and irritation.  Cigarette butts, beer cans, trash and an occasional sock or item of clothing left behind in the sand. 

All people who use the beach must adhere to this simple idea.  Leave only your footprints behind!  Please, have some consideration for everyone who will come after you leave.  Clean up your mess and if you smoke… police your butts!

Our white sand beaches are a gift and should be treasured and cared for our future generations. 

We love to dig in the sand, looking for treasure.  I do not consider cigarette butts and trash a treasure.
